Altea Coves, an essential visit on your next holiday

If you are going to spend your next holiday in a coastal town, we recommend that you get to know the area well in order to visit the best coves and beaches. In most cases, there are usually several options to choose from and there are several aspects to take into account. For example, how close they are to your accommodation, if they are very crowded, if they are suitable for water sports or if their waters are calm. What are the best coves in Altea?

It is true that Altea has a lot to see and its old town is one of the most beautiful in the area. Even so, visiting the town and not going to one of its beaches would be a real shame.

The town has several coves that are well worth a visit. It’s true that most of them are made of stone, stones or rocks, but you will really enjoy spending the day in one of the coves of Altea that we show you in the following sections.

Cap Blanch Cove

The Cap Blanc cove is located to the south of Altea and its yacht club. It is also connected to the well-known Albir beach. It is a beach where pebbles and gravel predominate. It is a very beautiful area of the town that is definitely worth a visit. Not forgetting that very close by you will find all the services you need to enjoy a great day at the beach.

Cap Negret Cove

It is located in the north of the municipality and has an open beach of more than two kilometres. It is quite wide and is located at the foot of the Sierra de Bernia mountain range. In the area you will also find everything you need in terms of services, accommodation and restaurants.

Soyo Cove

The Cap Negret cove has another smaller cove of black stone called Cala del Soyo. It is about 25 metres long and the best thing is undoubtedly its spectacular views, you will be able to contemplate an impressive landscape from the Peñón de Ifach to Punta Bombarda.

As well as enjoying the views, it is perfect for water sports such as snorkelling and scuba diving. If you don’t have anything to eat, there is a beach bar open all year round in the area.

La Barreta de Gualda Cove

It is located at one end of the Campomanes Marina. It is about 100 metres long and is made of gravel. It is usually quite crowded, as it is a meeting point for both locals and tourists.

It is named after a small stone bar or reef in the immediate vicinity.

Pileta Cove

It is located near the Port of Altea. Its shallow waters are ideal for a family day out. You can also snorkel or simply enjoy swimming and sunbathing in safety.

Metge Cove

Cala del Metge is very close to the Albir lighthouse. It is located almost at the entrance to the Natural Park of Serra Gelada. You should bear in mind that it is a very beautiful area, but access to it is not very easy.

Unlike other coves, this one does not have stairs to get there, but a rocky path. We recommend that you make the descent with care and, if possible, with the right footwear.

Don’t think of it as a cove for sunbathing, it is a perfect destination for swimming and underwater sports. Bear in mind that there are nudists in the area.

Mascarat Cove

The Mascarat Cove is another of the best in the area. It has no sand, as it is made of pebbles and boulders, but its crystal clear waters are perfect not only for a good swim, but also for snorkelling.

As in the case of Cala Metge, you will also find nudists in the area. Bear this in mind if you are going with children. There are also two beach bars where you can have a drink or even eat.

La Solsida Cove

This cove is located just past the port and is a perfect destination, as it is not usually very crowded. However, bear in mind that, as with the previous two, nudism is also practised in the area.

It is not sandy, but rocks and pebbles. Its waters are very calm and not too deep. Therefore, it is a perfect area for both swimming and snorkelling.
