Discover the Benissa Ecological Walkway

Discover the Benissa Ecological Walkway

The coast of Alicante is full of magical places. The natural surroundings with the Mediterranean Sea in the background show some breathtaking landscapes of indescribable beauty. The Benissa Ecological Walk is a path prepared to enjoy some of the best views in Alicante. We invite you to discover it.

What is the Benissa Ecological Walk?

As its name suggests, the Benissa Ecological Walk is a pleasant path set in a natural environment. It covers about 3 km along which you can walk through elevated areas that offer stunning views of the Mediterranean. The walk will take you approximately two hours, although it depends on the stops you make and the section of this blue trail you choose.

One of the main features of this route is that it connects different coves, allowing you to enjoy more than one swim on hot days. If you like snorkelling, don’t forget to bring your equipment. Some spots are perfect for enjoying underwater sports.

But there’s more, the path has a few places to stop and recharge your batteries. There are litter bins, benches and recreational areas with wooden tables so you can eat along the way. This makes it ideal for children. It will be very interesting to read with them the informative signs indicating the peculiarities of the area. They tell you about the history of the area and the animal and plant species that abound in the area. There are 21 panels in total.

How to get to the Benissa Ecological Walk?

If you are staying in Benissa or the surrounding area, take the CV-746 Moraira – Calpe road. You will find a tourist information booth, which is where the trail begins. These are the routes you can follow:

First part

The first section starts at the tourist office and takes you to the Les Bassetes Sailing Club. This club is named after Les Bassetes cove where you can swim or snorkel. On the way you can stop to see a disused rough stone quarry. The route of this first stage is about 700 metres there and back.

Second part

For this one you only have to walk about 0.5 km there and back. Once you have returned to the starting point, take another direction. In this case, follow the signs to Pinets cove. On arrival you will find a small, quiet cove with crystal-clear waters. If you wish, you can also go for a swim. If you want to continue a little further on and leave the route, you can enjoy the green area of Fanadix.

This is not to be confused with Fustera cove, which you will also see along the way and which you will quickly identify. It is larger and has all the services you would expect, such as access stairs, parking and even a restaurant.

Third part

This section, a little longer than the previous ones, 0.8 km outward and the same number of kilometres back, is the one that allows the walker the greatest connection with nature. It partially deviates from the coast, crossing part of the Fanadix green zone.

You can choose to do this route alone if you have children. As well as being spacious, it has a recreational area with tables for eating and a children’s playground. It is also equipped with public toilets, something that parents appreciate. The final destination is the Llobella cove, which is probably the most beautiful of the coves in the area.

Forth part

If you find yourself in Llobella cove and want to continue along the path, you can go ahead. You will enter the wildest area of all, with trees and unique natural spaces and the sea in the background. From the viewpoint along the way, you will enjoy unique views of the Mediterranean and part of the coast of Alicante, with the imposing Peñón de Ifach in Calpe in the distance.

The path continues to reach the next point of the section, the Advocat cove. To go down to the water, you can do so via a swimming pool staircase located on an artificial breakwater. If you want to have a drink at a beach bar, you can also do so. There is one open during the summer.

Once you have regained your strength, the final stretch arrives. One that will take you along the cliffs to a bio-healthy park that children and adults love. There are steps for the ascent, so there is no need to be afraid of the slope.

This park is the official end of the route, but if you still feel like it, we recommend that you continue a little further. Following the road you will reach the Baladrar cove, another Mediterranean treasure. As well as being beautiful, it has a beach bar in summer and picnic tables to eat your own food nearby.

All this is what you will find on Benissa’s ecological promenade. If you are staying in this municipality or its surroundings, we recommend that you visit this area and walk along the four sections we have recommended. You will enjoy some of the best views of the Mediterranean.
