The first of December is usually the key date when Christmas lights are switched on throughout the city which looks spectacular on these very special days. The Christmas lights switch on in Benidorm is without a doubt a great spectacle that surprises everyone both adults and children.
In addition, on the same day the ‘Plaza de la Navidad’ is usually inaugurated in front of the Town Council (Ayuntamiento). It is in this point of the city where the Christmas tree is placed. And there are also lots of activities specially designed for the youngest members of the family to have a nice time while enjoying the great atmosphere and Christmas spirit.
Christmas is the most wanted season for the little ones. For this reason, and particularly thinking of them, a number of activities are arranged for this time of year. We’ll tell you about them below.
In these dates, in the Plaza de la Navidad some amusement attractions are installed such as a Ferris wheel, ice skating rings, swings and playground slides. Moreover, sing games, craft workshops and children’s theatre performances are also available for kids to have fun.

And, if you prefer to write a letter to the Three Wise Men, meet them in the Cavalcade which is celebrated every January 5 in the evening. During this parade, the Three Kings, who are dressed in their best clothes, go through the streets of the city giving hope and a few gifts to children. In case you come with your kids, you can’t miss this great day! Furthermore, some days before this Christmas event you will also have the chance to meet the royal postman. It’s the person in charge to collect all children’s letters at the Plaza de la Navidad in Benidorm.
In case you like Christmas shopping, in Benidorm you will also find a Christmas street market near the Poblado de la Navidad. There you could enjoy and visit all kind of stalls: craftwork, Christmas decoration, sweets, chocolates and the well-known Spanish nougat. And don’t forget to visit the typical stalls with roasted chestnuts or churros with hot drinking chocolate – a delicious success!
Going out for a walk and enjoying the nativity scenes is another good plan to do in Benidorm at Christmas, particularly if you come with children. Although there are many associations and local entities that set up their own nativity scenes in hotels, markets or shops, there are some cribs that especially stand out. In particular those that are placed in Boca de Calvari Museum, in the Town Council or Barqueta and Casal Fester Museums are recommended. You will be surprised by their large size!
