Although there are many more you can do, we have prepared for you a selection of 10 walking routes with children in Alicante. All of them are suitable for the whole family and safe. In addition, they will allow you to get to know some incredible landscapes. Get ready, because we are starting now:

The Salt Lake of La Mata

La Mata’s saltwater lagoons are two characteristic wetlands because of their pink or reddish waters due to a type of microscopic algae that can survive in environments with high salinity, as is the case here.

This route, located near Torrevieja, is not only designed for children, but even for babies in prams or people in wheelchairs. You will find areas of shade, thanks to its abundant vegetation of pines and eucalyptus. It also has picnic areas with tables for eating. There are also lookouts to see the birds in the area.

Source of the river Vinalopó

Around this river grows a spectacular forest that deserves a route. La Font de la Coveta, in Bocairent, the source of the river, can be the starting or finishing point of your route and you will be surprised by its beauty.

Bear in mind that it is the most important native river in the province of Alicante and that it is more than 80 kilometres long, so it is important to plan the starting point and the beginning. If you need some help, we recommend that you include the El Toll Blau waterfall in the route.

The Lighthouse of l’Albir

It is located within the Serra Gelada Natural Park and is one of its most attractive enclaves. It has a paved road of just over two kilometres, which is perfect for going with a pram or a wheelchair. From the viewpoint you will have really spectacular views of the Bay of Altea.

The Arcs of Castell de Castells

They are two large arches that have been sculpted in the area naturally and thanks to the erosion of the limestone materials. These arches are located on the north face of the Xortà mountain range and within the Marina Alta region. Yes, you will love the arches but the surroundings will make you fall in love as it is really spectacular. It is a little longer than other routes, 8 kilometres, and has a slight slope, but if you go with children who are a little older, it will be worth the trip.

Route from the dam of the Guadalest reservoir

This reservoir is located in the Vall de Guadalest, surrounded by some of the best known mountains in the area, such as the Sierra de Aitana. There are several routes, one of them is quite simple, it starts from the reservoir itself and goes around it. It is perfect to do with children and they will surely be surprised to find out what these large water tanks are for.

Aspe’s Water Route

It is near Alicante and is not very well known. You can see two aqueducts, which date from the 18th century and were built to carry water from Aspe to Alicante. The original route is about 13 kilometres long, but you can make it shorter if you start at the Paraje Natural Municipal Los Algézares.

The Eight Villages of the Vall de Gallinera

This route runs in line over 15 kilometres between the villages that make up this valley in the Marina Alta. Don’t be afraid, we know it’s a lot for children. But you can do it in several days or shorten it. If you go in spring, you will enjoy the spectacular almond blossoms.

Route Cap Prim Cala Sardinera Jávea

Visiting Jávea will allow you to get to know its beaches and its impressive coves and cliffs. You can also do this route. Cap Prim is a small cape and the place from which the route starts. One kilometre after starting you will reach your destination, La Cala Sardinera. You will love not only the road, but also the views.

Benitachell Cliffs Route

This is a route suitable for the whole family and one that you will enjoy most. It is totally safe and takes you to Cala de Llebeig. In general, the route is quite easy, except on the way down, although your children will be able to do it without any problems.

Route of the almond trees in flower of Alcalalí

It is true that this route is designed to be done in February, when you will enjoy its maximum splendour, although you can do it at any time of the year. There are two different routes and if you do it in February, you will be able to see a real spectacle of nature: the almond trees in flower. Without a doubt, you will not forget the experience.

Remember to always choose comfortable clothes and shoes adapted to the time of year. Don’t forget to use sunscreen and bring water and food for the journey. Of course, fill your backpack with patience and you will enjoy any of these 10 hiking routes with children in Alicante.
