Snorkelling in Calpe: Which are the best destinations?

Are you a water sports lover? If so, you are sure to take it into account when planning your holidays. In the following lines we want to show you 10 places to snorkel in Calpe.

Where are the best places to snorkel in Calpe?

Take note of all the places we suggest for snorkelling in Calpe during your next holiday.

1. El Racó Cove

This cove is one of the best options for snorkelling in Calpe. Why do we say this? Because it is the only cove in the area that has an underwater itinerary, which includes panels underwater, in which the different species that you can see are narrated.

This cove is perfect for any type of underwater sport. There is also an arch where you can see starfish, among other very interesting species.

However, bear in mind that it is very busy during the peak tourist months, so you may have some problems with access and parking your vehicle.

2. The Queen’s Baths

The Baños de la Reina are located very close to Calpe, specifically in the town of El Campello. They are artificial pools, which are carved into the rock and which in the past were Roman fish farms.

It is another very touristy place where all kinds of marine sports are practised. We recommend that you try to go during the week so that you can enjoy snorkelling more.

3. Metge Cove

This cove is located in the municipality of El Albir, also very close to Calpe. It is located within the Serra Gelada Natural Park. It is a highly valued area for all snorkelling lovers.

Bear in mind that accessing this cove is not very easy, but it is well worth it, as you will enjoy the beautiful seabed, where you will find a large number of marine species.

4. La Mina Cove

Very close to this last cove you have just seen is Cala de la Mina. You can reach it from the route to the lighthouse of El Albir or by boat.

5. Xàbia sea caves

In this case you will need a boat to get to these caves, but bear in mind that motor boats are not allowed. It is definitely worth the effort, as it is a perfect place for snorkelling.

6. Tabarca Island

Tabarca Island is one of the most charming places in the province of Alicante. You can enjoy walking around it, but you can also take the opportunity to snorkel in its waters, which by the way are quite close to Calpe.

In addition to underwater sports, you will be able to see some rare species such as starfish and sea cucumbers, animals that are not easy to find.

7. Cala del Ti Ximo

This cove also belongs to the Serra Gelada Natural Park, but in this case it is in the Benidorm area. There are a couple of small coves and they are almost hidden, where you can discover a truly spectacular marine world. To get there, you can dive from Punta de las Escaleta or Punta del Cavall.

8. La Fosa Beach

In Playa de la Fossa there are some really spectacular places for snorkelling. They can be accessed via some steps that are located on the seafront promenade.

Please note that this is a rocky area and therefore you will need to wear appropriate footwear until you reach the water. On the seabed you will also find many rocks and some sandy areas. You will be able to see countless marine species, including the occasional octopus.

9. Les Rotes Beach

Les Rotes Beach, also known as Arenetes Beach, is located in Denia. It is another ideal place not only to enjoy snorkelling, but also to practice any other water sport or simply to spend a day at the beach. We say this because it offers one of the most beautiful landscapes in the area.

10. Cala de la Barraca

The Barraca cove is located in Jávea. It is another corner full of charm, surrounded by old white and blue fishermen’s houses, now enjoyed by holidaymakers.

Nearby is the island of Portixol, only 300 square metres in size, but with spectacular flora and some archaeological remains. The whole environment is perfect for snorkelling. Not only because of the seabed, but also because the waters are very calm. Without a doubt, snorkelling in Calpe is one of the best plans for your next holiday. Besides, you have endless possibilities to choose your destination.
