In the following lines you will discover everything that you can see in Guadalest in your next holidays, for sure when you finish the reading you will be wishing to know this town. Don’t miss these plans!

What to see in Guadalest?

If you do not know the province of Alicante, we can say that it is full of enchanting corners. It is much more than a place to go on holiday thinking only of the beach. In fact, the interior of our province has a lot of charming places full of nature, there are many places that are worth a visit. Therefore, we suggest you to spend a day in Guadalest, these are some of the places you cannot miss:

  • Guadalest Castle. Guadalest or San José Castle is located in the highest area of the town, on a large rock. It dates from the 11th century and was used by the Muslims before the reconquest. It must be taken into account that it is not in good condition, after the area has suffered two earthquakes. It can be visited, but check the timetable as it is not always the same.
  • Castle of the Alcozaiba. It is located next to the Castle of San José and it is an old watchtower. It dates from the same period as the Castle of San José, but has been restored in recent years.

  • Centre of the village, the oldest part of Guadalest! You enter the centre of the village through a tunnel across the large rock where the castle is located. You will love the medieval atmosphere of the whole town and its cobbled streets. You can visit the many craft shops that you will find spread out in all those streets and even take a little souvenir of the area. You can also enjoy the local gastronomy in the different restaurants that you will discover during your tour.
  • Guadalest Town Hall. The Town Hall is located in the town square. As a curious fact, you will be pleased to know that under the Town Hall there is an old prison in the shape of dungeons, which was built in the 12th century. You can visit it during your visits. However, we recommend that you check its opening hours and any restrictions before visiting.
  • The Guadalest reservoir. It is one of the most beautiful areas you can visit. The water comes from the river of the same name and has a simple route around the reservoir, which is accessible to everyone. Besides, the good weather in the whole province invites you to make this tour almost at any time of the year.

  • Museums. It seems incredible that a town as small as Guadalest can concentrate so many museums. However, it is more than true and not only that, Guadalest is the municipality in Spain with more museums per inhabitant.
Thus, some of the ones you can visit are, for example, the Casa Orduña, where you can relive all the charm of the time when it was built. For its part, the Antonio Marco Museum brings together its entire collection of antique toys and doll’s houses, while the Microminiatures Museum contains different miniature monuments. On the other hand, there is the Museo Microgigante, which is similar to the previous one and is also worth a visit. Also worth a visit are the Vall de Guadalest Museum of Historical Vehicles, the Bicycle Museum, the Salt and Pepper Museum and the Ethnological Museum, not to mention the Medieval History Museum with an exhibition of instruments of torture from this period that will make your hair stand on end.
  • Magical garden. No doubt this is another visit you cannot miss if you go to Guadalest. It is full of statues with amazing shapes. It is a perfect place to go as a family. You will love to go around it completely and take pictures in all its places full of magic.
  • Guadalest Valley. If you like to be in contact with nature, you cannot miss the Guadalest Valley. It is a group of mountains, among which the Sierra de Aitana stands out, with a peak of 1,558 metres, the highest in the whole of the Valencian Community.
  • Almond trees in flower. It is true that any time is good to visit Guadalest, but if you go in February, you cannot miss the incredible spectacle of nature that are the almond trees in flower in the area. You will love the charming aspect that the landscape has.
  • Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. It is located next to Casa Orduña. It dates back to the 18th century and has a marked baroque style. Unfortunately, during the Civil War the church was looted and burned. When it was restored in the last decade of the sixties, some changes were introduced with respect to the original design.

Now that you know what to see in Guadalest, without a doubt, one of the most charming towns in the area. In Camping Villasol we are waiting for you, we are the perfect destination for your next holidays.
